Project Update – April 2024: The Little Village Project

Ask the parents of the 78 students who have so far been helped by The Little Village Project about its worth, and you will find an enthusiastic group of cheerleaders for this life-changing initiative.

Ask the parents of the 78 students who have so far been helped by The Little Village Project (TLVP) about its worth, and you will find an enthusiastic group of cheerleaders for this life-changing initiative.

Students from two Latrobe Valley schools are currently benefiting from the program, with enquiries coming from more. Launching in 2020 at Stockdale Primary School in Traralgon by its welfare support officer, Ben Tunks, TLVP is now also underway at Tanjil South Primary School and Traralgon’s Grey Street Primary.

One of the assisted 78 students had a speech impediment that was acting as a barrier to effective learning. After TLVP connected the student with a speech therapy program, her confidence and happiness lifted, as did her academic grades. The student has now gone on to secondary school where she is thriving.

It is individual stories like hers that have demonstrated the value of TLVP to educators and funding partners. Key among them are the Latrobe Health Assembly (LHA) and AGL Loy Yang, without whom the project would not be possible.

LHA is actively involved, not only with substantial funding, but with plans for the development of resources such as a dedicated TLVP website.

Moves are also underway to secure funds and appoint a dedicated staff member to manage TLVP and facilitate its expansion.

With more than 330 interventions so far provided, the Little Village Project model has an almost limitless potential for growth.
